10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for many of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of a house?
The exterior of your house could use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Plano, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time of year to clean out your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t give you too much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your house, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem strange since you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing company can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter since you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in pretty bad condition the first time you step onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common home roof problems in Plano. While you are cleaning the exterior of your house, it is an excellent time to clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.

If you notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then let it be. This mixture will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your house is probably what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will improve your day, and it will even inspire you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean unnoticed areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will probably be spending more time outdoors, so spring is a great chance to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment must all have a specific place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your house so much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the look of your house.

Eliminate weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.

You could probably finish these projects after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Plano Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
